BBC Panorama: Daylight Robbery
58:22 – 1 year ago

Daylight Robbery: BBC One 9pm Tuesday 10 June 2008. Panorama investigates claims that as much as $23bn (£11.75bn) may have been lost, stolen or not properly accounted for in Iraq. When the US goes to war, corporate America goes too. There are contracts for caterers, tanker drivers, security guards and even interrogators, many of them through companies with links to the White House. Now more than 70 whistleblower cases threaten to reveal the scandals behind billions of dollars worth of waste, theft and corruption during the Iraq war.

The US justice department has imposed gagging orders which prevent the real scale of the problem emerging. Jerks? You decide for yourself.

The War Party
49:29 – 2 years ago

The War Party is a BBC ‘Panorama’ documentary, first broadcast on Sunday 18th May 2003. The programme investigates the Neo-Conservatives in America. Bit touchy due to the Zionist views of some neo-cons but that’s beside the main point I think. More important is the fact that the policies of the US are strongly influenced by people of diverse faiths who believe in an everlasting battle between good and evil (you know, ‘War Mongers’.)

This documentary focuses on 8 November 1983, a date now recognised as one of the most dangerous moments in the entire history of the Cold War. On this near-fateful day, a series of accidents nearly unleashed the Third World War. Senior figures in the Soviet Union had convinced themselves that they were about to come under nuclear attack from the West, and the vast Soviet nuclear arsenal of missiles, bombers and submarines were put on maximum alert, ready to launch a full nuclear retaliatory attack on Western Europe and the US. Armageddon beckoned. This documentary tells the dramatic story behind this sequence of events when Soviet fingers hovered perilously over the nuclear button. The intelligence communities in the US, Europe and the former USSR have never before admitted to the scale of this crisis.

Haiti’s Piggy Bank 1999

Directed by Robin Lloyd

30 min

In Haiti’s rugged countryside, the Creole pig was a poor family’s most important economic asset, a staple for both food and culture. When swine flu broke out in 1980, USAID pressured Haiti to eradicate this indiginous pig population. This video shows the self-interest of US aid, the interconnected nature of resources, and the trauma caused by harsh agricultural policies imposed from above. But it also teaches that resistance can bring renewal and hope: through grassroots and human rights assistance, the Creole pig has returned. This is an example of how local actions can solve local problems.

Bush Family Fortunes (2003) Gregory Palast

Documentary about the rise of the Bush family. There’s no mention of Satan, N.W.A.,  Illuminati or world dominating lizards though. So you won’t hear Carmina Burana (but there is a little Black Sabbath at the end.)

Gregory Allyn Palast (born June 26, 1952) is a New York Times-bestselling author and a journalist for the British Broadcasting Corporation as well as the British newspaper The Observer. frequently his work  focuses on corporate malfeasance but has also been known to work with labor unions and consumer advocacy groups. Notably, he has claimed to have uncovered evidence that Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, and Florida Elections Unit Chief Clay Roberts, along with the ChoicePoint corporation, rigged the ballots during the US Presidential Election of 2000 and again in 2004 when, he argued, the problems and machinations from 2000 continued, and that challenger John Kerry actually would have won if not for disproportional “spoilage” of Democratic votes.
